Earwax Removal
Earwax build-up often leads to increased hearing loss, pain, and irritation. For this reason, you should never attempt to remove earwax yourself. The ears are extremely sensitive, and without proper care, self-removal can quickly make the problem worse.
Over time, impacted earwax causes greater hearing loss and increased discomfort. As a result, it also becomes much harder to remove, making early and professional treatment the safest and most effective option.
Methods Used
Depending on the condition of your ear canal, we select an individually tailored method of earwax removal to ensure safe and effective treatment.
In many cases, we use microsuction, where micro-instruments apply gentle suction to safely remove wax from the ear. Alternatively, ear irrigation may be used. This method uses specialised equipment to gently flush the ear with a controlled flow of warm water.
In some situations, we carry out mechanical removal. During this process, a medical instrument carefully hooks or clasps the wax, allowing us to remove it gently from the ear canal.
Earwax Build-Up
Earwax naturally forms in the ear canal and plays an important protective role. Specifically, it helps protect the eardrum from small particles that enter the ear and could cause damage. Over time, the wax and trapped particles slowly move along the ear canal, where they either fall out on their own or are wiped away.
However, when this natural process is disrupted, earwax can build up and become problematic. As a result, the wax may block the ear canal and lead to increased hearing loss and other uncomfortable symptoms.
Signs of a blockage in the ear canal include:
- Impaired hearing
- Ear pain (otalgia)
- Tinnitus
- Irritation
- Ear infections
- Vertigo
